Your Daily SkinOwl Inspiration for Tuesday, December 11, 2012 :)
Good Morning TUESDAY!
it's time for our daily dose of SkinOwl Inspiration for Tuesday, December 11th, 2012! Here we go!
A lifetime ago, I worked in the TV and FIlm Industry. I moved out here, after graduating from Indiana University, to pursue a career in the Entertainment Industry, hoping to become a Film Director. Early on, I realized this was not the career for me, and contrary to popular belief, what they teach you in college, doesn't always prepare you for the real world. Specifically, when it comes to the aforementioned industry. No class or teacher could have prepared me for the personalities, the long hours, the surprises, the bosses, the stories, and so many of the "pinch me" moments. It will remain one of the most influential times in my life and although the scenery has changed, many of the lessons still apply.
For example, I remember once being told, "Annie, you never know who will be on the other end of that conference room table deciding your fate, so don't ever burn a bridge in the work place." I remember an old boss of mine pulling me into her office and saying, "When you grow up, don't be like me. Leave the office at 5:30 and don't look back." I can't tell you how often I think of these two lessons.
In the end though, one lesson has always stuck out more than the rest. A Director that I idolized in my early 20's, upon seeing Britney Spears' breakup with Justin Timberlake, said "They love you when you're up. But, they love it even more when you're down." BAM. And like that, it stuck. I had never heard it put like that.
In sum, whether it's a postponed engagement, a failed pregnancy, or a pay raise, haters are gonna love to hate. As we enter a new calendar year with so many anticipations for love, success, and change, let's keep our worlds full of positivity, motivation, and resilience. We owe it to ourselves. We owe it to the hard work we put into our lives on a daily basis. Cheers to YOU!
With love,
